Driving directions:Myślenice lies 30 km south of Cracow and you arrive in there along the road no 7, that is down a famous "Zakopianka" road. In the town you have to head for Zarabie, where is Zdrojowa Street. The turning from this street is Zamkowa Street, and as it is known from the Guide, this is an infallible sign that there is the castle nearby. It is no different in this case. A red trail leads through Zamkowa Street, down which you have to go towards the forest to reach the ruins of the castle.
Historical outline:In Myślenice existed two castles. The first one, the remains of which have remained until today, probably emerged at the turn of the XIIIth and the XIVth cent. on the slope of Uklejna mountain, and in the written documents it appeared for the first time in 1342. It fulfilled then a function of a customs house on a Cracow-Hungary trade route. The stronghold ceased to function in the XVth cent., while the walls, which have preserved till our times, are remainders of the tower, which was blown out in the XVIth and the XIXth cent.
The second one, so called new castle, was raised within the town limits in the middle of the XVIth cent. by Spytek Wawrzyniec Jordan, however already in 1762 the building was deserted, and in 1893 it was entirely dismantled and all tracks of it were covered.
