Historical outline:
Former name: Wohlau
The castle in Wołów sprang into existence in the first quarter of the XIVth cent. on the initiative of Konrad I, although some researchers question the existence of the castle in the Middle Ages in this place. If it existed, was the part of a town defensive system. The stronghold was next reconstructed in the XVIth and XVIIth cent. At the beginning of the XVIIIth cent. the castle was consumed by fire and rebuilt in the years of 1714-1725. The subsequent construction works from the XVIIth and XXth cent. almost completely effaced an appearance of an incipient building.
