Driving directions:As to enter Będzin you need to drive down the road no 910 from the side of Dąbrowa Górnicza. Then you should drive straight ahead all the time down the main road and seek the castle on the right side of the road. It is visible from a distance, on the hill over houses.
Historical outline:The castle was built in the XIVth cent. on relicts of the early-medieval castle from the XIth-XIIIth cent. The village Będzin for the first time appeared in written documents from 1301, whereas the castle has been mentioned since 1349, among others, in the register of fortified buildings erected by Casimir III the Great.
In latter ages the castle was leased by Mikołaj Siestrzeniec Kornicz, the Szafraniecs, the Jarockis, the Myszkowskis and the Zborowskis. In 1564 the castle was desolate what confirmed the then inspection. In the following years there were attempts to restore one-time splendor of the castle. It was rebuilt in 1616 after the fire and in 1655 after the invasion of the Swedes. Since XVIIIth cent. the stronghold remained in ruin until 1834, when according to the Frances M. Lanci’s project it was restored in the neogothic style. Within the following years the castle lived up to several conversions, and its present appearance we owe to renovation works from the years of 1952-1956. Today the seat of the Museum of Zagłębie Dąbrowskie is situated in there.
