Historical outline:The contemporary town Janowiec sprang into being on the grounds of the village Syrokomla the history of which dates back to the XIIIth cent. In the XVth cent. the village belonged to the Janowskis of Syrokomla coat of arms and at the end of the century was passed to Mikołaj Firlej’s hands of Lewart coat of arms. The latest field research allow to suppose that under his rule the castle in Janowiec arose, however the first mention about the stronghold comes from the Town Charter of the town from about 1537. At the end of the XVIth cent. the owners of the castle became the Tarłowies of Topór coat of arms who considerably extended it. Starting with 1654 the stronghold was in the Lubomirskis’ hands who rebuilt it after the war with the Swedes and gave it the final shape. The last owner of the castle who was residing in it since 1783 was Mikołaj Piaskowski. After his death in 1803 the castle began to fall into ruin and was not resided any more, and since 1809 the walls of the stronghold were being disassembled.
