Driving directions:Nidzica is a relatively large town of the Warmian-Masurian Province, located 54 km south of Olsztyn. Entering Nidzica from the west, down the road no 538 or 545 You have to make for Szczytno (road no 545), and then turn left towards Wielbark. The castle will be visible from a distance on the hilltop.
Historical outline:The former name: Neidenburg
Currently existing castle arose in the years of 1370-1400 at the place of a defensive building from the beginning of the XIVth cent, the history of which is not known better. The stronghold of Nidzica was extended in the XVth cent. with external fortifications with two bastilles/bastions, and then in the XVIth cent. gained the curtain walls. After the year of 1804 the so-called large house was dismantled, which could be found in the precastle, while in the 1945 the castle was partially destroyed. It was rebuilt in the years of 1961-1965 and we can admire it up to this day.
