Driving directions:Probably nobody should have any problems with reaching Kazimierz Dolny (it is located 10 km south of Puławy). To reach the castle You must head south, uphill from the market square. At the place where there is an order to turn left, turn left into the Zaczarowane Koło St. Then on the hilltop, turn right (do not go an aforesaid circle :-) and drive on uphill down a stone-paved road. At the place where the road flattens out at about 15-20 m you must park and go left down the path to the castle.
Historical outline:In Kazimierz, which arose before the middle of the XIIIth cent., the customs house was located, to defense of which the castle was indispensable. It arose on the Casimir the Great’s initiative, to perform its defensive function. In subsequent centuries the castle was being leased by numerous families, among which the Firlej family resided for the longest time in the years of 1509-1644. The destruction made by the Swedes in the years of 1655-1657 and 1707-1714 initiated the process of the deterioration of the castle. In the inventory from 1774 you may read that the castle was then abandoned.
