Historical outline:
The ducal castle in Dziewin already existed around 1250. In 1287 the duke Henry III of Głogów sold the local lands (perhaps without the castle) to the knight Otton von Zedlitz. In the next centuries the village was frequently changing its hands, whereas the castle was probably still the ducal property. It was not until the XVIth cent. when the members of the family of von Kanitz who had ruled over the village for 100 years, became the owners of the castle. These were brothers Lassel, Wolf and Siegmund von Kanitz, who converted the castle into the Renaissance palace in the years of 1558-1566. Then the monument was changing its hands again, and in 1700 was extended. In 1721 the palace became the property of the family of von Schweinitz und Krain, who resided in it till 1945. The last owner of Dziewin was the count Erich von Schweinitz and the baron Krain von Klauder. The building was destroyed in 1945 and since then it has remained in ruin.
