Driving directions:Jelenia Góra is quite a renowned town in the Lower Silesian province, so there should not be any problems with its finding. From the town centre you have to drive down the road no 30 for Zgorzelec. In the Sobieski Street you ought to drive through the bridge over the Kamionna river and right past it turn to the right into the Różana Street (there is located an auto-gas station by it). Next drive down the asphalt as far as "No thoroughfare" signpost, park there on the large square and follow the green trail which begins beyond "No thoroughfare" signpost, up the hill. On the hilltop the tower is situated, and borough around it.
Historical outline:Former name: Hirschberg, Hausberg
On the Bolesław Krzywousty's Mount in the place of an earlier borough, Bolko I of Świdnica-Jawor started building the castle before 1291. Reference to this stronghold appeared in the documents from the XIVth cent. After separating Silesia from Poland, the castle came under the Czech rule. Subsequently, in the time of Hussite wars, the construction was devastated by townsmen. Before 1449 the castle was already deserted and dismantled later.
The castle was not the subject of detailed archeological research, therefore not much is known about it. At present there are stone plaques informing on the existence of the borough from the XIIth cent. in this place on Krzywousty's Mount.
