Driving directions:

Golub-Dobrzyń is situated 35 km on the north-east off Toruń. It is a relatively large town, so there should not be any problems with finding it. After entering the town you need to follow the main road all the time, along which you have driven to. At a given moment on the hill from a distance there will be visible the castle, to which you need to follow the course.

Historical outline:

The former name: Gollub

The Teutonic castle was built in four stages, probably in the place of wooden-earth defensive building from the XIIIth cent. Construction works began after 1293 and ended up around 1306. In 1422 artillery fire of polish army partly destroyed the castle, rebuilding of which lasted till the middle of the XVth cent. Gollub was passed under the polish rule in 1454. In the years of 1611-1625 the castle was Anna Wazówna’s property, who turned it into her summer residence.
Polish-Swedish wars contributed to the following destructions of the castle and since then the building deteriorated more and more. In the XIXth cent. the castle served residential functions, as the prison, and in 1883 the school was located in there. With the XXth cent. came preservative works and the reconstruction of the castle. Nowadays it houses the museum and the hotel, and once a year one of the largest knight tournaments is organized there.
