Driving directions:Karpno is located in the Kotlina Kłodzka. In order to reach the castle it is best to set out from Stronie Śląskie down the road no 392 to Lądek Zdrój. On your way you drive through Stojków, in which around 50m beyond the board with the name of the place, you must turn into the first lane to the right before the house. Initially it is stony, and asphalt later. You should drive down that lane as far as you notice the signpost "No thoroughfare", and then the next 3 km of asphalt lane overcome on foot. When you get to the green trail, you need to follow it to the left to the forest. Later on the road leads sharply uphill and there you can find the ruins of the castle.
Historical outline:Former name: Karpenstein
Karpień castle was constructed at the beginning the the XIVth cent., perhaps in the place of a wooden borough raised between the VIth and XIth century. In 1346 Jan Luksemburski gave the castle to Tomasz Gloubos as a present, and 8 years later the stronghold was an object of donation again. This time Karol IV passed it over to his brother, Jan. The following owners of the castle were the families of Talwitz, Parchwitz and Niemanitz. The structure was destroyed in 1428 by the Hussites to later become the residence of the knight-robber Hink Kruszyna from Lichnice. The actions of the knight made him enemies, who under the command of the duke of Opawa-Ziębice, Wilhelm, conquered the castle in 1443. Later, however, the remainders of the stronghold still served as the residence of robbers, till 1513, when it was razed to the ground. Ultimately the remnants of the castle were disassembled in the XIXth cent.
