Driving directions:As to reach Uraz you must go down the road no 342 from Wrocław toward Oborniki Śląskie. After covering 19 km, in Pęgowo, turn left into the road no 341 towards Brzeg Dolny. Having covered 6 km you enter Uraz, where driving all the way long down the main road you approach the church standing on the left side. There you ought to park and walk in the direction from which you have came. On the right there will be a path with the yellow trail, which you need to go past and turn right into the following one to the footbridge. From there you may already spot the castle on the right from a distance. As to arrive at it you should walk straight ahead down the path and after around 200 m turn right into a very narrow forest path. It leads along the embankments round the ruins.
Historical outline:A former name: Auras
The castle in Uraz has a very atypical structure. Contrary to the other castles, its walls were raised of a triangular plan, not the quadrilateral. The founder of the castle was probably a knight Andreas Radak, who in 1319 enlarged an existing there before castellan borough. Perhaps however the builder of the castle was the next owner of Uraz – Hancko von Auras, who held an office there in 1344. A past name of the place would suggest that. Whereas an extraordinary appearance of the castle was given probably by a knight Christoph von Skopp, who received local lands in 1466. In the next centuries the castle was changing its owners as well as was rebuilt many times. In 1945 the building burnt down and in 1956 was secured in the form of a permanent ruin.
